Your car is a valuable asset, and you want to make sure your new asset retains as much of its value as possible, for as long as possible. We get that, and we’re here to help. So today we’re going to take you through some of our favorite Ford maintenance tips that can keep your car driving as smoothly as when you first left your Ford dealer and preserve your vehicle’s value.
Keep Your Car Clean
While most people’s first thought when they hear “car maintenance” is the engine, protecting the body of your car can be equally as important. Allowing dust, dirt, and debris to build up on your vehicle’s exterior can lead to rust eating away at the metal frame, which can tank your car’s resale value. Make sure to keep your car clean, either by washing it manually or hitting up an automated car wash.
Change Your Oil
Your car depends on oil to keep all the moving parts of its engine lubricated. Failing to regularly replace your oil can lead to metal grinding against metal, which can mean overheating or damaged parts. If your car is left running like that for too long it can lead to engine failure. Make sure you’re changing your oil every 3 months or every 5,000 miles traveled, whichever comes first.
Check Tire Pressure
Tire pressure is a delicate balance. Too much pressure, and you run the risk of a blowout. This can be dangerous for both your vehicle and yourself. If you’re driving with too little pressure you might accidentally warp the rim. A warped rim can be an expensive problem to fix.
It’s a good idea to keep a close eye on your tires, especially during season changes. Rising or falling temperatures can cause a shift in your tire pressure. You should also plan on having your tires rotated every 5,000-10,000 miles traveled. Rotating tires can prevent uneven wear on the rubber, and lead to a longer lifespan for your tires.
Replace Air Filters
Your air filters work hard to keep outside contaminants away from you and your car. If they become clogged, it can put a strain on your A/C and lead to reduced fuel efficiency. A lot of factors can impact how long your air filter lasts, including the environment you drive in most often, but a good bet would be to check your filter twice a year. If it appears excessively dirty or damaged, go ahead and replace it.
