Plenty of space, power, and technology features make the 2025 Ford Explorer a fun vehicle for long road trips. Read our guide below to learn more about this three-row SUV.
Powerful Engines
Robust power to fuel your adventures comes courtesy of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 engine with automatic start-stop technology. The engine is paired with a refined 10-speed automatic transmission. This excellent system generates 300 horsepower for the Explorer.
For drivers looking for even more power, a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is available. You can also choose to switch from standard rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive. Alternatively, there is an available intelligent all-wheel drive system.
Strong Towing
Bringing outdoor gear on your weekend adventure is no problem thanks to the standard Class III Trailer Tow package. This offering gives all trims a 5,000-pound maximum towing capacity. Features like trailer sway control ensure the experience is a smooth ride from start to finish.
Optimized Performance
Six selectable drive modes come standard as part of the Explorer’s terrain management system. Eco mode helps you save money on gas, Sport mode adjusts your steering and handling for an athletic experience, and Tow/Haul adjusts power for optimized towing. The Slippery mode enhances traction when the roads are wet, while Off-Road is perfect for rugged terrain. You’ll also have a Normal setting for your everyday commute.
Flexible Seating
One of the things that makes the Explorer stand out is that it combines outstanding performance with a spacious cabin that can seat up to seven passengers. A heated first row comes with a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat. The second row offers roomy captain’s seats, while the third row has a convenient 50/50 split-fold bench seat. Cozy cloth seating comes standard, or there are available leather-seating surfaces for a more elevated aesthetic.
Your groceries will fit in the 16.2 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seat. Folding down the third-row bench seat will expand this to a spacious 46.0 cubic feet. On the occasions when you need to haul some larger cargo, folding down the second and third-row seats will give you a maximum cargo capacity of 85.3 cubic feet.
Advanced Infotainment
The 2025 edition of the Explorer has a new system called Ford Digital Experience. This is loaded on a 13.2-inch touchscreen where you’ll be able to log in to your Google account and pull in your saved Google Maps destinations, tailored Google Assistance results, and download apps from Google Play. Google Maps will give you real-time navigation data to help you on your next road trip.
